Q: Is a 5m long line too long for a beginner?

It can be if you're new to handling line. Start with a 3m if you've never used a long line before, then upgrade to 5m once you've got the technique sorted — sliding line through your hands, gathering it in loops, and reading your dog's body language.

Q: When should I use the handle on a long line?

Use the handle as your safety anchor — for emergency stops (sudden cyclist, off-lead dog, road) and when you need both hands free for a moment. For everyday recall work, slide your hand along the line rather than relying on the end.

Q: Can I use a long line as a regular walking lead?

Yes — and many owners do. Just gather the slack in loops and hold it shorter for street walking, then let it out for sniff sessions in the park. One lead, two jobs.
